Detroit 53 series two cycle diesel engine specs, history, and information. The 53 series included the 3V-53, 4V-53, 6V-53, 8V-53, and 12V-53 model engines. The two stroke diesels from Detroit featured a relatively high horsepower per unit of displacement, although the engines were somewhat heavy. Applications included marine, on-highway, military, and agricultural equipment.

An "A" means aftercooled. There is even a TTA, which means twin turbo aftercooled. Now, that we have the naming convention out of the way, this 4-53T was originally in a 1979 Brazilian truck before the currently owner rebuilt it. The engine is fed with a Garrett T04B turbocharger with a 0.96A/R turbine housing, which feeds a 4-53 blower.

The rear axle is a 14 bolt rear converted to disc brakes, re-geared more for highway speeds to a 3.42 ratio with a Yukon Grizzly locker which really helps in snowy conditions. (I currently have the spare on right now since I have to replace one of the tires).

The undercarriage is all custom, airbags in the rear, haven't identified the axles yet but everything is huge, same with the suspension components, I think I counted the leaf springs stacked 11 deep 4.11
